"Your story unfolds through learning, competing, and thriving in our community."
This tagline is the basis for the most recent web design for Christian Brothers University. The lively, dynamic university that offers programs in arts, business, education, engineering and sciences, came to Speak looking for a website that matched their spirit. Through the process of conception, CBU was heavily involved in sharing their long-term goals and vision for the website.
Through the entire design process it was important to pay homage to the long standing history of the university while maintaining a breath of fresh air that would draw in prospective students and their families. CBU officials felt it was important to both showcase their student involvement and campus life while demonstrating their rigorous academic programs.
The homepage starts with rotating images that show life on campus through the eyes of students. A unique section just below the fold features significant highlights of the University through an interactive counter, which finishes counting upon the user's scroll.
Further down the home page, are interactive web parts that link to internal pages including academics, news, events and athletics.
The site uses traditional CBU colors and recently updated logos featuring the Bell Tower, while integrating an Instagram feed of all current posts from the University's Instagram profile, @FromCBU
. This attention to detail is just one of the ways where CBU is able to honor tradition while maintaining currency and relevancy in today's world.
The website expands past the home page with an Intranet that allows students and faculty to log in and manage their accounts, emails, courses and more.
The internal pages dig in deeper to academic programs, life around Memphis, Campus Life, and more information for Prospective Students.
One feature that stands out on the website is the ease of navigation. Aside from the top navigation, there is a right side sticky navigation on the homepage, giving immediate calls-to-action including "Apply", "Visit" or "Donate".
In addition to these menus, calls-to-action are found throughout the site, giving ample opportunity for students to receive more information. The footer also links to all of the social media profiles for the University to encourage engagements and follows from both current and prospect students.
The Website Launch Response
CBU recently launched the site to a great response. Current students and followers took to social media to express their approval of the new site. Web traffic on the site is currently in the testing phase of our launch, but is looking to show good improvement overall.
