The Newcomers: Meet Speak's Freshman Class

Can you believe it's almost half way through the year? We've been busy launching new sites, strategizing marketing campaigns and building apps as well as seeing our new offices being built for a later summer/fall move in (head over to our social accounts to see progress). As our team shifts and grows, we've welcomed a few new teammates to the mix that bring a wealth of experience, passion and knowledge to the world of digital marketing. With the addition of two new web designers, a project manager and a business development specialist, we're already seeing fantastic results and can't wait to see them help Speak grow. And while we affectionately refer to them as "the freshman class", make no mistake that their skill and abilities make them anything but JV!

Sarah Gannon, Project Manager

Tell us a bit about your professional background.

I was previously an Account Manager at a Web Tech Agency based in Nashville that served a lot of churches, nonprofits, and ministries. I wore many hats, including Project Management. I absolutely loved doing what I did everyday and executing a project from start to finish.

I think my favorite thing about being an AM was hearing a client's vision and making it come to life. It re-energizes the organization and truly brings a new light and perspective back in their eyes.

Why Speak?

I am so excited to be a part of the Speak team! I mostly look forward to working with such a tight-knit team and creating some beautiful work for our clients. Oh...and half days on Fridays aren’t bad either.

What's your favorite part of digital marketing?

What I love about DM is the fact that it is always changing. It truly challenges you to keep up with the constant evolution of technology and thinking ahead of what the future may hold for DM. You truly never get bored and you are always amazed as to what technology accomplishes in the marketing world.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time you will most likely find me in one of the surrounding state parks hiking the trails or one of the local coffee shops or restaurants. I am a food and travel junkie and will find any chance I can get to take a road trip to somewhere new.  

Kate Staggs, Business Development Strategist

Tell us a bit about your professional background.

Right after I graduated UT Martin with my Marketing degree, I worked as the Leasing & Marketing Manager for a large, off-campus apartment complex for a year. When my husband graduated in 2014, we moved to West Plains, MO for his job and I had a brief stint with radio advertising for Ozark Radio Network. Within a few months, I had moved on to State Farm, where I worked with a new agency as a Sales Representative and Marketing Advisor until I found Speak.

Why Speak?

I am looking forward to learning all I can about digital marketing, as well as working with businesses to build their brand. Plus, all the people at Speak are pretty awesome.

What's your favorite part of digital marketing?

My favorite part about digital marketing is the way a website creation can completely transform a business's brand and success. Digital marketing is here to stay, so our jobs are so important to help educate business-owners how to make it work best for them.

What do you do in your spare time?

My favorite day is comprised of sitting on the couch with my dogs and my husband watching Law & Order marathons. I also enjoy watching sports, traveling, and playing the piano.

Carson Ford, Designer

Tell us a bit about your professional background.

I started out as a graphic designer, working primarily with print materials, but my interest in digital media brought me into the world of web design. I discovered that I enjoyed coding as much as I did designing, so front-end web work became a perfect fit for me.

Why Speak?

The opportunity to work alongside a team of designers is huge for me. I love being able to learn from the experience of others and hopefully will be able to share a few tricks in return.

What's your favorite part of digital marketing or agency life?

It is a fast-paced environment where I get to juggle multiple projects. I enjoy getting to work for a varied clientele.

What do you do in your spare time?

I do my best to get away from the computer on the weekends; I dabble in film photography, like to draw, and also play piano.

Emily Hoover, Designer

Tell us a bit about your professional background.

My first graphic design job was for Deer Valley School District in Arizona. I was the only graphic designer for the whole school district. My job was to design any work order that was sent in and prep it for the print shop. I also used to manage some of the print runs and the backend of their website.

I moved on to working at 434 Marketing, a small marketing agency in Virginia. Since we were such a small team, I was the graphic designer, web designer and developer, photographer and videographer. I also have a background in freelancing, working with a handful of music artists and authors.

Why Speak?

I was the only designer in my past jobs so it's great to have other team members that I can bounce ideas off of and push me to be better in my design skills.

What's my favorite part of digital marketing or agency life?

My favorite part is the variety of work I have in my week. All the different types of projects really push me creatively.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love hand lettering, calligraphy, weaving, yoga, and tennis.

Mark Palomino, Design Support Specialist

Tell us a bit about your professional background.

After graduating high school in Paraguay, I came to the US to continue my studies, and fell in love with Graphic Design. Even as a kid I would create custom graphics with the latest (now super duper old) version of Photoshop for events that my graduating class would host. After graduating with a BFA, I took up an outside sales job for AT&T selling U-Verse.

After leaving sales, I went back to school to get my Master’s in Media Design from Full Sail. Professionally, at the time I had the opportunity to work on some freelance illustrations and basic design projects. Before joining Speak, I actually worked at a key warehouse, designing custom graphic keys.

Why Speak?

I chose Speak for several reasons. I wanted an environment that was wholesome, aligned with my beliefs, and would encourage me to continue to push myself, both personally and professionally.

What's my favorite part of digital marketing or agency life?

My favorite part of working in the digital marketing/agency life is not having “normal” days. Every day is filled with challenges that range from website issues to troubleshooting to just being a part of a team that is actively growing the business of their clients. We get to see the real-time impact that our work has with our clients, and even though that’s definitely nothing to be taken lightly, I have proud moments when I’m able to look back on the scope of a project and think to myself “I helped make this happen." Even if my role was minimal, it’s a great feeling.

No day is like another, and it’s exciting to walk into work not knowing what challenges the day has to offer.
